Un-Becoming

I like the word “becoming” because it implies transition. Yet, when it is used to describe a woman’s physical appearance- there leaves little room for this idea. Unless we can become younger, svelter, more furtive…we may be conditioned to believe we are actually “becoming” less valuable with age.

Here, I have taken to grappling with my physical decline in parallel with my undergarments’ loss of elasticity. Each writhing pile represents one failed bra or snagged pair of hosiery.
